Greg Clerk appointed Deputy CIO

Summary

Hostplus recently announced the internal appointment of a Deputy Chief Investment Officer (CIO) to bolster the fund’s long-term investment strategy and unwavering focus on delivering strong risk-adjusted returns to its 1.1 million members.

Greg Clerk has been appointed in the new position of Deputy CIO, following two years as Hostplus’ Head of Investment Strategy and 14 years prior advising the industry fund through its asset consultant, JANA.

Hostplus CIO Sam Sicilia said the fund was delighted to promote Mr Clerk who will deepen his involvement in developing Hostplus’ $37 billion investment strategy, portfolio construction, asset allocation and other key investment-related decisions.

“Greg has played a pivotal role in Hostplus’ investment outperformance over the past 16 years. He is a big-picture thinker, with a deep knowledge base spanning physics, economics, quantitative analytics and information technology.

“He takes a hands-on approach to continuous improvement across our investment governance, portfolio construction and investment strategy. And, on a more personal note, Greg has been a remarkable leader and mentor to our investment team.

“I feel privileged to have Greg working alongside me and look forward to having more time to consider the role of geopolitical forces against a rage of possible scenarios that may impact the fund’s long-term investment horizon,” Mr Sicilia said.

Mr Clerk’s appointment is effective immediately, with all Heads of Asset Classes, previously reporting to Mr Sicilia, now reporting to Mr Clerk.

Prior to his extended tenure as a senior consultant at JANA, Mr Clerk also served as an analyst at the Department of Treasury and Finance in Victoria. He holds a Ph.D. (Theoretical Physics) from the University of Melbourne.
