Hostplus launches Socially Responsible Investment option

Hostplus enhances investment choice for members with new socially responsible focus.

Hostplus today launched their Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) option. The new option creates more choice for members who wish to direct their investment towards social and environmental considerations.

The Hostplus SRI option comes on the back of increasing member and community interest and the funds’ longstanding commitment to ESG matters.

Hostplus CEO David Elia
"We are delighted to be able to offer this option to our members. The issue of sustainable investing has been a focus for Hostplus for a numbers of years and as such, we have an extensive ESG approach in place.

While this approach applies to all our investments, the SRI option creates a distinct choice for members who wish to specifically address environmental, social and governance factors in their superannuation."

Hostplus' core business is to enable its members to enjoy the quality of retirement that they want and as such this decision has been made with due consideration ensuring our rigorous standards are clearly met.

Certified by the Responsible Investment Association of Australasia, funds in the SRI are managed within a responsible investment framework. Underlying investment managers combine traditional performance metrics with environmental, social and governance criteria to identify investments that meet acceptable standards in areas such as environmental and social impact, ethical considerations, labour standards and corporate governance.

As such the Hostplus SRI absolutely excludes companies specifically involved in the manufacture or maintenance of nuclear, cluster, chemical or biological weapons. On grounds of environment and human rights concerns the SRI will not invest in certain categories. Refer to the Product Disclosure Statement available from pds.hostplus.com.au for more information.

As with other investment choices, Hostplus members can invest in the SRI option via their online accounts or by speaking to the Hostplus contact centre directly.
